New Asian American Studies Class for Fall 2016!
Humanities Honors 81: The Viet Nam War
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:30-10:50 AM - Prof. Judy Wu
Description:
This honors course explores the origins, history, and legacies of the U.S. War in Viet Nam through the lens of Asian American Studies. Through readings, discussions, and films, we will explore and analyze various ways to understand the U.S. War in Viet Nam as well as its legacies. Students will benefit from both local and institutional resources to explore these complex legacies. Orange County is the home of the largest Vietnamese community in the U.S., and UCI is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Southeast Asian Archives (http://seaa.lib.uci.edu/). Students can both access valuable historical and contemporary resources and also have the opportunity to utilize the UCI’s Vietnamese American Oral History Project (http://sites.uci.edu/vaohp/). The class will prepare students to create a short digital narrative about the significance and memory of the Viet Nam War. This course fulfills either GE III or IV. Students who are interested in taking this class to fulfill requirements in Asian American Studies should contact Prof. Wu. |
